Macquarie University ensures that our experience is memorable and pleasant. It takes care of all its students from the beginning to the end. All the necessary and essential information is served in a platter during the orientation by the Macquarie staff. However, further to facilitate the transition for international students it assigns you with a ‘buddy’ or a ‘mentor’ (usually a senior student doing the same course) to ease the cultural shock that most of us go through. Mentors assist you with all the processes and are the first point of contact in case of any difficulty. Further, Macquarie has an international club which hosts festivals and events from all around the world. They recently celebrated Diwali where Indian students could take part in dances teach other students about Indian culture and enjoy the delicious Indian food, in a nutshell it was AMAZING!!!. Also, there are Indian clubs which also celebrate festivals like Holi and organize international dinner nights. Though I am so far from home but I still do not miss on anything. I am getting an exposure to a diverse variety of cultures, developing a wider perspective and outlook and at the same time enjoying by educating others about Indian culture. There is something for everyone- if you want to further your international experience you can go on an exchange, if you want to improve your leadership and entrepreneurial abilities then there is Global leadership Program and AIESEC, if you want to get involved with sports, drama, community work, publications or anything for that matter there is some association or club that can enhance your skills and abilities. Therefore, Macquarie just doesn’t provide you with the academic skills but with a whole bunch of social skills that makes you stand out from the crowd.

The selection process is pretty straight forward. There provide a list which shows the percentage each course requires to get into Macquarie. Also, if you do not satisfy the criteria they advise to come into Macquarie via SIBT (which is a pathway) where you spend your first year and the staff equips you with all the skills and then you can get into Macquarie in your second year.

There are scholarships however it is competitive. The scholarship for international students is up to 100%. So the university tries to provide as much assistance as it can.

My course is very well structured and incorporates all the relevant subjects from different fields like- psychology, sociology, statistics, marketing, business and HR. There are two hour lectures where one studies with 100-200 students and then there are tutorial for 1 hour every week with the class size of 20 students that helps us to ask our doubts and get our concepts clear.

We have an amazing campus with a variety of facilities and support services. All the people are very friendly and helping hence making friends is a very easy job. The Macquarie International office keeps organizing trips for an amazingly low price to help international students to explore the country. Also, this office helps in finding accommodation both on-campus and off-campus (They are a helpful bunch of people).

Taking into consideration the job prospects, I would say that since my degree is very specific hence it will definitely provide me with an edge over other students who are doing a much more general degree. Macquarie also has an alumni association and it is a good idea to talk to them and listen to their experience which can be very informative. Macquarie strongly encourages us to keep in touch with the alumni.
