University life is definitely one of my most enjoyable experiences. At Macquarie University, the best advice I can give is to get involved! I do understand that majority of students do go overseas to get that HD grade, but there's more to student life than that! Get Active! At Macquarie we recently redevelop our gym, have two large swimming pools and have a wide array of sports to choose from. There are many sporting teams to join as well. Get fit and healthy! Meet friends! There are many student societies as well, depending on what you like, from dark ages club, manga/comics clubs, religious clubs, and even multicultural clubs. It is a great way to meet new friends and adapt to the Aussie culture.

ratingSelection process and gaining admission

The process was very smooth and easy. I went through SIBT (Sydney Institute of Business and Technology), which is affiliated with Macquarie University. The institute is on Macquarie grounds. The institute is for both local and international students. Unlike UNSW Foundation and UTS, after studying for one year you only gain a certificate. SIBT has the material for 1st year students so it is exactly like 1st year at university, except in SIBT you finish the semester in a total of 10 weeks and it is a lot faster if you want to finish your degree. After studying one year at SIBT, you will get a diploma instead of the mere certificate that other unis offer. You will jump straight to 2nd year in your degree and Macquarie University and finish you degree in a blink of an eye.

ratingFunding and scholarships

Scholarships are offered to students who have brilliant results in their academic transcript.

ratingYour study experience

I am currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce major in Accounting. The total number of years for this degree is 3. After the degree will study for the CPA. The best bit about accounting is Macquarie University is best known for its commerce/finance/actuarial studies sector. The majority of students are studying in these fields. The classrooms are very clean, we have high tech lecture boards, no more white/black boards anymore, (computerised). It’s amazing what technology does for us today! This gives the lecturers and tutors and even students a comfortable environment to learn in. Each subject varies on the number of credit points. For e.g. 3 credit points require a minimum of 4 hours. For 4 credit points, minimum requirement is 6 hours. It's a standardised timing for each subject, it is a fair and square system.

ratingYour life experience

Currently I am the President for the Singapore Students Association at Macquarie University. The best thing about joining a society (of your choice) is that it’s a fantastic way to meet friends and enjoy outdoor activities. Recently, we had a friendly competition of paintball versus our Malaysian Students Association. With all the sweat and mud we managed to shoot a couple of people or three. Through societies like these, you not only get to have loads of fun but you get to meet new people and new friends.

ratingJob prospects

Studying a B Commerce Accounting, many of the big accounting firms and big banks always have career talks at our university as we are highly recognised in this field. They seek for fresh and new graduates who are potential candidates to work for their companies.
