I love UWA. The university campus is huge and very beautiful, with many libraries and facilities offered to students. It also has a very condusive environment for students to do their research, studies and also many hang out places. The lecture theaters are well-equipped and the staffs are excellent. I made many friends from different nationalities and backgrounds in which also contribute to a different university experience I'll never forget.
I must say UWA has a slightly higher requirements as compared to other universities. However, as long as you fulfil the requirements, it should be rather easy to get in. As an international student, you might need to satisfy the English langauge Competence (ELC) requirements, which is also available on the website. I would suggest future students to take into account the ELC requirements seriously as without acceptable evidence of ELC, you will be ineligible for a degree place at UWA as stated on the website too.
There are a wide range of scholorships/ funding opportunities available, however, there are also terms and conditions attach to it which requires satisfaction of certain requirements. Do check up these scholorship/funding opportunities on UWA website for undergrad at http://www.scholarships.uwa.edu.au/home/undergrad. Each discipline also contains their own scholorship/funding opportunities which can also be found on the website. To best secure financial assistance, ensure you fulfil criterias for scholorships, otherwise, plan your own budget and expenses in advance to avoid any financial distress.
My course is awesome! It is totally what I'm interested in. I study about 20 hours a week, including lectures, labs, tutorials. It can be abit tedious at times especially during mid semester tests or assignment due dates but otherwise, its really enjoyable. I have all materials and resources I need for my studies, the library is very comprehensive. Some lecturers can be strict at times, however, it is also part and parcel of developing the best in students. I do have alot of interesting lecturers and tutors that keep those boing lectures alive, thankfully.
UWA is just few minutes drive away to the perth city. There are also many buses available to the city. I would say the location is perfect. I enjoy having BBQ in Mathilda Bay which is behind the school, facing the river, nice view and a good place for me to relax and chill out with my friends. There are also students hostel/accomodation opposite UWA, across the road which is really convenient, walking distance to school and also helps me to save on transport. There are many student unions available but I join the Student Guild which provides me discounts or benefits to various shops such as fastfood outlets, restaurants, drinks in club etc. Part-time jobs should be easy to get in fast food chains or department stores especially during the Oct-Dec where they need extra hands for Christmas preparations.
I would say engineering is always in demand and my course does provide a comprehensive knowledge in this field. Besides, there are always career fairs and talks held in my school which brief us on the job prospects available. There is an alumni association available but I don't think I will join since I thought of returning back to my home country.
