Accommodation
Selecting an appropriate accommodation option is important for international students given that they are coming to a new country and often a completely different style of living.
On-campus Accommodation
A residential college offers a safe and a secure environment to students of all nationalities. These five residential colleges provide housing for more than 1,000 students:
A residential college or hall offers comfortable accommodation and provides students with all the facilities and support which enable them to enjoy a rich and varied life. Residential tutors provide support to students in their studies and the colleges provide computer, library and sporting facilities and well as organizing many social events.
International students wishing to apply must to fill out an application form and return it to the college of their choice along with:
- an application fee of A$60
- the required number of passport size photos and
- the details of two referees.
Off-campus Accommodation
Off-campus accommodation provides students with different choices such as shared accommodation, renting or full-board options.
Shared accommodation can either be an apartment, a unit or a house. Students share their accommodation and expenses with other students or the property owners.
Students may rent or lease their own apartment, unit or house either on their own or with others. Accommodation of this type close to the University is in high demand. Excellent accommodation can also be found in the surrounding suburbs and Perth has an excellent public transport system for easy movement around the city.
Full board accommodation, also known as homestay, involves students residing with families or individuals. Students have their own furnished bedroom, and share the other household facilities with the owner. Most homestays provide two meals per day and the weekly costs covers most utilities.
The University’s housing office provides an online housing database for international students who have been offered a place, but have not yet enrolled. Through this database, students are able to access lists of available accommodation prior to their arrival in Perth.
